Terms of Service

Last updated: 7 August 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and Melibri. By creating an account or using the app, you accept them. If you do not agree, please do not use Melibri.

1. Who can use Melibri

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may only use Melibri with the involvement of a parent or guardian who agrees to these terms.

You are responsible for activity that happens under your account. Keep your Google sign-in secure, and tell us at hello@melibri.app if you believe someone else has accessed your account.

2. Food safety, allergies and dietary information

Read this one properly - it is the part that can actually hurt you.

Melibri labels recipes with dietary and allergen tags by matching words in the ingredient list. It is an automated guess, not a laboratory analysis, and it will sometimes be wrong. It cannot know about a brand's hidden ingredients, a substitution you made, shared equipment, or cross-contamination in a kitchen or factory.

If you have a food allergy or intolerance, never rely on Melibri. Read the ingredient list yourself, check the packaging of everything you cook with, and follow the advice of a qualified medical professional. The same applies to any nutrition figures shown, which come from the recipe source and are not verified by us.

Recipes are user-supplied. We do not test them and cannot guarantee that any recipe is safe, accurate, or suitable for you. You are responsible for safe food handling, cooking temperatures and storage.

3. Your content

You keep ownership of everything you create. Your recipes, photos and notes remain yours.

To run the service, you give us permission to store, copy, display and transmit your content for the purpose of operating Melibri - for example, saving your recipe, syncing it to your other devices, and showing it to the people you have shared it with. This permission is limited to running the app. We do not sell your content, license it to third parties, or use it to advertise.

When you make a recipe public or share it with another user, they can save their own copy. Those copies stay in their cookbooks even if you later make your recipe private or delete your account. Please treat sharing as permanent.

4. Copyright and recipes you did not write

Melibri includes a feature that reads recipes from photos, and lets you import recipes from websites. That makes copyright your responsibility to respect.

In most countries a bare list of ingredients is not protected by copyright, but the way a recipe is written usually is - the headnote, the descriptive method, the photographs, and the selection and arrangement of a collection.

By posting content publicly you confirm you have the right to do so. Do not upload material you did not create unless you have permission or the law allows it. If you believe content on Melibri infringes your copyright, email hello@melibri.app with enough detail to identify the work and the content, and we will review and remove it where appropriate.

5. Acceptable use

Do not use Melibri to:

6. Moderation

Photos you upload are checked automatically for inappropriate imagery, and recipe text, usernames and cookbook names are checked automatically for harmful content. Users can also report content and block other users.

Automated moderation is imperfect in both directions: it will occasionally block something harmless, and it will occasionally miss something it should have caught. Where we get it wrong, email hello@melibri.app and we will take another look.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that breach these terms. For serious breaches - particularly anything involving the safety of a child - we may act immediately and without notice.

7. AI features

Melibri can extract recipe text from a photo using an AI service. This is a convenience feature and its output is frequently imperfect: it may misread quantities, omit steps, or garble ingredients. Always check a scanned recipe against the original before you cook from it, particularly quantities and temperatures.

Scans are subject to usage limits, which we may change. Photos you submit for scanning are sent to our AI provider to be processed, as described in the Privacy Policy.

8. Deleting your account

You can delete your account from Settings → Delete My Account. Your account is deactivated at once and permanently deleted after 30 days; signing back in during that window restores it. Copies of recipes you shared remain with the users who saved them, as described in section 3. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms, or discontinue the service. If we discontinue Melibri, we will give reasonable notice so you can export your recipes from Settings → Backup & Restore.

9. Service availability

Melibri is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that your data will never be lost. Keep your own backups of anything you cannot afford to lose - the app can export a full backup file from Settings.

10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits or lost data. Our total liability for any claim relating to Melibri is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty-five US dollars.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is material we will give notice in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Melibri after that means you accept the new terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in New York, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it somewhere else.
